Motivators for Losing Weight
Do you enjoy the process of losing weight? Is it fun to you? If you are like me, probably not! Yes, it is a huge joy to drop a few sizes and fit into smaller clothes and be able to get back into those skinny jeans you could not wear after having your children, but does anyone truly enjoy giving up the food they love to get to that point?
Often times it is the motivation for losing weight that is not enough to convince us. Perhaps you are not feeling motivated enough to lose those extra pounds, mostly due to the lifestyle enormous changes that accompanies it? How about a nice little consolation prize which might get you to change your mind? How many money instead?
That’s right! What if I told you that losing weight and reaching your weight loss goals meant money in your pocket? You probably would not believe me and I would not blame you. But it is true! Money has always been the single most largest motivator for most everything we do in life. For instance, we are motivated to get out of bed in the morning so that we can earn a paycheck when we go into work right? We are motivated by saving money whenever we clip coupons for groceries or department stores. We want to save every nickle and penny we can. We are motivated by monetary discounts on products and services. Whenever we see ads for sales at the local shopping mall, we are motivated to get in our cars and go check them out, often times spending more on fuel costs than what our savings is. Am I right?
Apps Allowing You to Lose Weight While Trimming Down
I am going to discuss with you three different apps which allow you to earn hard cold cash while losing weight. I promise you this is not a scam. I think you will be delighted with what I am about to share with you.
As you know, there are apps for just about anything that you can download to your cell phone. I have seen some pretty bizarre apps but the three I am going to discuss with you now are ones that you can use that pay you for losing weight and getting into shape.
The first app I wish to discuss is DietBet. I am starting with DietBet because it is the highest recommended app of all three with a 4.5 out of 5 star rating according to the DietBet Google Play Store page.
How DietBet Works
The way DietBet works is simple. You bet on yourself to lose weight with a group of other players. If by the conclusion of the game, you have achieved your weight loss goal, you split the pot with other players and thus, you succeeded in making money while losing weight. It is a win-win situation.
Select Between Two Different Game Types:
- KickStarter – You bet to lose 4% of your weight in 4 weeks
- Transformer – You bet to lose 10% of your weight in 6 months
How is My Weight Verified?
You might be thinking to yourself the following:
- “How do they verify the weight loss?”
- “What is stopping someone from cheating and recording a false weight?”
- “Wouldn’t it be easy to say you lost weight when you actually did not?”
The verification process is concrete and includes the following:
- Verification Through Photos and Videos
- Algorithmic Auditing
- Referees who evaluate and assess each weigh-in
The other nice thing about DietBet is you can get support 24 hours, 7 days a week.
Testimonials of DietBet App
Love it! So far, this app has helped me lose 10 pounds. I don’t have much more to go but I’m looking for another game to get me the rest of the way there. Once you sign up, motivation is all around you from real people going through the same struggles. Love it!
Awesome program, love it! I found diet bet by new year 2015. I was scared to put money on losing weight but after I committed to my health it really motivated me to not lose my money to others. I participate monthly & haven’t had to invest any more than the original $30. I’ve lost almost 80 lbs. I’m gambling on myself. It’s not up to chance, it’s up to me. There are some features on the web not viewable in app though 🙁 and it opens always to search for new games… Not necessary midgame
The second one I am going to discuss is HealthyWage, founded in 2009. Out of all three of the apps, this is the least recommended for making money while losing weight, because it has a 1.7 out of 5 star rating according to the HealthyWage Google Play store page.
Even though the app has received low ratings, HealthyWage itself has been favorably featured on the Today Show:
Many companies are reporting to have used HealthyWage in their corporate challenges. It is beneficial to companies that their employees remain healthy so there are fewer people calling in sick.
Testimonials on HealthyWage App
Crashes, will not load. Will not open for me after entering email and password. I am currently participating in a challenge.
Doesn’t work I am all signed up for a challenge. Even paid my first installment and the app won’t go past the sign in page. Its crap!
The third app which allows you to make money while losing weight and exercising is Pact. This downloadable app has a 3.0 out of 5 star rating according to the Pact Google Play store page.
How Pact Works
The way this particular app works is you set your weekly goals for how much you will exercise or eat healthier. You make a pact (hence the name of the app) to pay other members if you do not achieve your goals. You use the app to track your progress. If you achieve your goal, you are paid by other members who do not succeed.
How Do They Verify?
Similar to the verification methods used by the other apps, in order to verify what you is true, Pact uses GPS technology, photos and other resources to verify your honesty. All activities must be verified in order to count towards your Pact.
Three Types of Pacts
- Gym Pact – Any gym workout, bike ride over 30 minutes or 10,000 steps in a day count towards your Pact.
- Veggie Pact – Make a pact for how many fruits and vegetables you will eat in a week.
- Food Log Pact – Keep track of what you eat for every meal
A 92% success rate has been reported with this particular app.
How Do Rewards Work?
How are the rewards administered? Rewards are based on the actual number of days committed and successfully completed in your Pact. If you meet your Pact, you get a cash reward per day committed, paid by those who do not succeed in keeping in their Pact.
Testimonials of Pact App
This app doesn’t deliver If an app is going to ask you to put your money on the line it’s features have to work. I worked out five times and the gym this week and took a 3.5 mile hike this weekend and only four workouts counted due to faulty GPS and pedometer in the app. The app would say my workout started but when I was finished and returned to the locker and my phone there was either no option to end the workout or the app told me I’d left the gym which was weird because I was standing in the gym.
I can’t believe this app is still around I tried this again after a two year break. Activities not counting properly linked to RunKeeper and moves. Anything up to 1000 steps can be lost when using moves so when you sync you are short for you pact. I use a garmin activity tracker and exceed 100000 steps per day, this is not recognised. The additional faffing around trying to sort out the errors takes up half of your life and is just not worth the $0.90 you may gain for meeting a pact. Shame really as a good idea in principle.
I hope you have found this article I have written about three popular apps for making money on your cell phone while losing weight to be useful. If you have any personal experience with any of these apps or other apps not discussed here, I urge you to leave a comment below, because I would love to hear from your experiences, either good or bad.
